Rudy Giuliani formally dropped his presidential bid and endorsed John McCain Wednesday, setting up the Arizona senator with valuable support and big press heading into the GOP primary debate in California.
Giuliani pledged to campaign with McCain wherever he is needed, and touted his former rival as an “American hero” and “the most qualified candidate to be the next commander in chief of the United States.”
Giuliani spoke at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, Calif., where the Republican debate was being held just two hours later.
“He came from way behind to go way ahead, and once again displayed his tenacity, his courage, his ability to focus, his ability to get things done,” Giuliani said, referring to McCain’s surge over the past two months. “I can’t imagine a campaign that better demonstrates who the person to be president of the United States should be.”
On his plane en route to The Golden State, the former New York City mayor said that he opted to end his faltering campaign because he did not want to eat into McCain’s support on Super Tuesday, when just four remaining candidates will battle for the 1,023 delegates allocated from 21 states voting that day.
“It’s disappointing to lose a race for president because you believe you’re the best candidate, but I had made it clear before I had to make this decision who I thought the other best candidate was,” Giuliani said.

Dan Harkins Announces Candidacy for Congress
On January 4, 2008, Dan Harkins, a resident of Springfield, Ohio, filed his Petitions with the
Greene County Board of Elections to place his name on the 2008 Republican Primary Ballot for the
for the 7th Congressional District. The primary election will be held on March 4, 2008.
Dan Harkins, age 47, is an attorney in Springfield who has a general civil law practice which
includes matters involving health care and taxation. Harkins is an established civic leader. He was
the President of the Springfield Family YMCA and the President of Tecumseh Council, Boy Scouts
of America. His service resulted in various awards including the Silver Beaver award from

Beavercreek - Following Congressman Dave Hobson’s announcement that he does not intend to seek re-election for Congress, Senator Steve Austria, (Republican - 10th district) Majority Whip of the Ohio Senate, announced his intention to run for the seat in 2008 with Hobson’s support.

Reed Madden has filed the necessary paperwork to make official his bid for the 10*1 District Senate seat to represent Clark, Greene and Madison counties at the Ohio Statehouse. Madden says he plans to propose a scaling down of taxes for 8 years beginning in 2009.
"We are over taxed in many areas: retired benefits, property taxes, business fees and death taxes," said Madden of Spring Valley. "My proposal will help us keep our young workers and our seniors from leaving Ohio for reduced or no taxes in other states."
Madden also wants to bring competition into the state for the Workers Compensation Program to save money for small businesses.

As voting nears in the Republican nomination process, our campaign remains convinced that our strategy we have long had in place is right – bold, innovative and designed to deal with the radically different election calendar. While many of the beltway insiders seem to remain committed to the old "Carter/Clinton" approach and have questioned the adjustments we have made to our strategic thinking based on the new calendar, we clearly have a winning plan to secure the nomination in an election cycle unlike any other. History will prove us right.
As we enter the final stages of the campaign we have seen a tightening in the national polling and the emergence of a real 5-way race for the Republican nomination. Mayor Giuliani has led virtually every national major media poll conducted in 2007. We are now at a point in the campaign where we are seeing increasing polling volatility as public attention turns to the horse races in individual states.
Important to our long term strategy, Mayor Giuliani has enjoyed a commanding lead in nearly every public poll conducted in the delegate rich states of Florida, California, Illinois, New York and New Jersey.

The Primary Calendar 2008 will be unlike any recent Republican nomination process. What typically has been a primary process that stretched into March or April has been accelerated and compacted into a 33 day sprint.
Our rivals seemingly have built campaigns based on the old calendars’ strategies — a couple of very early state wins to propel them deeper in to the nomination process. To the contrary, our plan allocates time and resources to the many states which vote a bit later — on January 29 (Florida) and February 5.
For the record, only 78 delegates will be picked prior to Florida whereas 1,039 delegates will be picked on January 29 and February 5. Additionally, it is important to note that voting HAS ALREADY STARTED in Florida, Missouri, Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey and New York – tens of thousands of people will have already cast their ballot by the time you are reading this note. And more February 5th states, including California will begin early and absentee voting soon. All of this points to the folly of over-estimating the impact of the results of Iowa and New Hampshire and the wisdom of our strategy.
Putting a high priority on spending our time and money in a proportional basis in Florida and the large delegate states voting on February 5th is clearly the right thing to do.
The Early StatesThe pre-February 5th states are Iowa, Wyoming, New Hampshire, Michigan, Nevada, South Carolina, Florida and Maine. Delegates are at stake in just five states before February 5. Wyoming will select a portion of its delegates at their caucus in January, but will not allocate all of their delegates until later in the year. Iowa, Nevada and Maine award NO delegates at this time. Florida is the big prize on January 29, with 57 winner-take-all delegates – the only winner-take-all state before February 5th.

While Governor Huckabee was climbing rapidly in polls before Christmas, he now seems to have plateaued. Governor Romney’s strategy has long been based on winning the first few races to build momentum. Many believe the Romney organization (and a few million more dollars of get-out-the-vote money) will pull this one out for their campaign.
New Hampshire is only a few days after Iowa and voters there are notoriously late deciders on their presidential primary vote. New Hampshire will be very much in flux after Iowa. Governor Romney was governor of neighboring Massachusetts and Senator McCain won New Hampshire in 2000. In addition to Senator McCain’s base of support, he has recently put together a series of high profile endorsements in the area to further reinvigorate his campaign. The unprecedented personal spending by Governor Romney should not be underestimated. It is apparent that he has put more than $40 million of his own money into this race.
Accurate polling in New Hampshire will be nearly impossible, with the holidays complicating it logistically and the Iowa news cycle dominating press and potentially disrupting the order of the race.
Although we should expect to see more polling from South Carolina, Michigan and the other early states, one should remember that because of the furious pace of the election calendar and the never ending news cycle, polling will be very difficult to conduct, have a very short shelf life and become even more unstable and unreliable. The polling picture will be further blurred with the range of new polling methodologies that are being tested, ranging from robotic calling to internet polling.
Thus, we should all be ready for a barrage of state and national polls in January with seemingly contradictory results — some of it good news, much of it related to early January states as bad news. We should all have confidence in the strong organizations and also in the strong bases of support in Florida and other February 5th states which will endure the ups and downs of January.
Also, by the time we get to Florida, the field of candidates and the race will look remarkably different than it does right now. Florida will be the important battleground not only for our campaign but for the race itself.

As voting nears in the Republican nomination process, our campaign remains convinced that our strategy we have long had in place is right – bold, innovative and designed to deal with the radically different election calendar. While many of the beltway insiders seem to remain committed to the old "Carter/Clinton" approach and have questioned the adjustments we have made to our strategic thinking based on the new calendar, we clearly have a winning plan to secure the nomination in an election cycle unlike any other. History will prove us right.
As we enter the final stages of the campaign we have seen a tightening in the national polling and the emergence of a real 5-way race for the Republican nomination. Mayor Giuliani has led virtually every national major media poll conducted in 2007. We are now at a point in the campaign where we are seeing increasing polling volatility as public attention turns to the horse races in individual states.
Important to our long term strategy, Mayor Giuliani has enjoyed a commanding lead in nearly every public poll conducted in the delegate rich states of Florida, California, Illinois, New York and New Jersey.

The Primary Calendar 2008 will be unlike any recent Republican nomination process. What typically has been a primary process that stretched into March or April has been accelerated and compacted into a 33 day sprint.
Our rivals seemingly have built campaigns based on the old calendars’ strategies — a couple of very early state wins to propel them deeper in to the nomination process. To the contrary, our plan allocates time and resources to the many states which vote a bit later — on January 29 (Florida) and February 5.
For the record, only 78 delegates will be picked prior to Florida whereas 1,039 delegates will be picked on January 29 and February 5. Additionally, it is important to note that voting HAS ALREADY STARTED in Florida, Missouri, Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey and New York – tens of thousands of people will have already cast their ballot by the time you are reading this note. And more February 5th states, including California will begin early and absentee voting soon. All of this points to the folly of over-estimating the impact of the results of Iowa and New Hampshire and the wisdom of our strategy.
Putting a high priority on spending our time and money in a proportional basis in Florida and the large delegate states voting on February 5th is clearly the right thing to do.
The Early StatesThe pre-February 5th states are Iowa, Wyoming, New Hampshire, Michigan, Nevada, South Carolina, Florida and Maine. Delegates are at stake in just five states before February 5. Wyoming will select a portion of its delegates at their caucus in January, but will not allocate all of their delegates until later in the year. Iowa, Nevada and Maine award NO delegates at this time. Florida is the big prize on January 29, with 57 winner-take-all delegates – the only winner-take-all state before February 5th.

Montgomery County Commissioner drives drunk!

Montgomery County Commissioner Debbie Lieberman was placed in a diversion program after her arrest on a drunken driving charge Saturday.Lieberman was pulled over at 3:04 a.m. by an Ohio Highway Patrol trooper after she was seen swerving on Interstate 70 near Englewood, according to Sgt. Jeff Bernard. She failed a field sobriety test and registered .131 on a breath test, he said. The legal limit is .08."The officer detected a strong odor of alcoholic beverage. Her eyes were glassy. She admitted to drinking two glasses of wine," Bernard said.Lieberman said she'd gone out with friends for dinner and to two bars after leaving a Dayton Development Coalition business meeting and reception on Friday night. She said she'd been driving about 25 minutes when she was pulled over."I deeply regret my lapse in judgment and I made an incredible mistake," said Lieberman, a Democrat who is seeking re-election this year. "I've taken full responsibility for my actions and it will never happen again."On Tuesday Lieberman entered a conditional guilty plea to a first degree misdemeanor charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, said Vandalia Municipal Court Judge Cindy Heck. Lieberman must complete a three-day, lock-down alcohol treatment program but will not go to jail or lose her license under the terms approved by Heck.
The charge will be dismissed if Lieberman completes the program and has no alcohol-related offenses for one year.

The ASA recognized Widener's proven leadership on small business issues - especially those that impact the sub-contracting industry and the billions of dollars of investment in Ohio's infrastructure they represent.
The ASA indicated that they are honoring Widener because of his leadership and for his unique role as a liaison between the construction community and the state legislature. He's used his experience in the industry to be both a powerful voice for his constituents, and a voice for fairness to Subcontractors across Ohio.
As a small businessman, Widener understands that government red tape hinders job creation. That's why he's worked hard to represent business interests and fought to remove bureaucratic obstacles.

Widener is currently serving Madison and portions of Clark and Greene Counties in his fourth term as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives where he is chairman of the House Financial Institutions, Real Estate, and Securities Committee. As a state representative, Widener voted to cut income taxes, provided prescription drug coverage for 1.4 million Ohio seniors without any additional costs to the taxpayers, and helped pass a state budget with the lowest growth in spending in nearly half a century.
He is a licensed architect and has owned his own firm for 18 years. Prior to starting his own business he worked at Wright Patterson Air Force Base as a civil service architect and as the installations first full-time Historic Preservation Officer.

Jarrod Martin announces candidacy for State Representative
CITY COUNCILMAN JARROD MARTIN ANNOUNCES HE WILL RUN FOR STATE REPRESENTATIVE
Beavercreek City Councilman Jarrod Martin Announced Today That He Will Seek Election To The Ohio House of Representatives 70th District.
The 70th district encompasses Beavercreek and Beavercreek Township, Xenia and Xenia Township, Fairborn, and Bath Township. The House seat is currently held by term limited Kevin DeWine (R-Fairborn). Jarrod Martin, a lifetime resident of Greene County, filed his petitions last week and announced today that he will seek the Republican nomination in the primary election to be held on March 4, 2008.
Martin has a B.S. in business administration and will complete his MBA at the University of Dayton in May. Martin and his wife Bernadette have three children. Martin is very active in the community donating his time to such organizations as BCAA (little league baseball), the Youth Council, Greene County Family and Children First Council, Greene County Habitat for Humanity, Greene County United Way’s Christmas Assistance Program, and the Miami Valley Military Affairs Association among many others.

The 70th district encompasses Beavercreek and Beavercreek Township, Xenia and Xenia Township, Fairborn, and Bath Township. The House seat is currently held by term limited Kevin DeWine (R-Fairborn). Jarrod Martin, a lifetime resident of Greene County, filed his petitions last week and announced today that he will seek the Republican nomination in the primary election to be held on March 4, 2008.
Martin has a B.S. in business administration and will complete his MBA at the University of Dayton in May. Martin and his wife Bernadette have three children. Jay Tieber announces Candidacy for State Representative
I have decided after some deliberation to seek the honor of representing you in the Ohio House of Representatives.
As always, we face many challenges as we seek to sustain and enhance the quality of our lives in Greene County. We also have great opportunities. It is becoming increasingly known that our communities are great places to live with a wonderful balance of resources. We have good access to jobs, education and many of the amenities associated with large cities, while much of our district retains a rural character with natural surroundings and much outdoor recreational opportunity.
We have a large presence of government activity in and near our district and we are therefore economically dependant on those assets to a significant degree. It will be my pleasure and responsibility to attend to the needs of our local governments, our schools and colleges, and Wright Patterson AFB to ensure the greatest benefits to our communities and residents.
We want to ensure that State of Ohio government is responsive to our needs without imposing undue burdens on our workers and businesses in terms of taxes and regulations. A principal activity of government is to ensure the safety and security of its citizens. It will be important to create and tailor state economic development policies that help our businesses without creating burdensome state programs. We need to protect our environment so our citizens can enjoy clean air and water. And we need to sustain the programs that offer support to those suffering misfortune for reasons not of their choosing.
These things must be done while ensuring maximum efficiency so that the size of our state government is as small and inexpensive as possible. At this time the total tax burden of our citizens ranks among the top 10% of the states and this is not acceptable.
We need to make Ohio the most attractive state for business. There is a history of creativity in our communities and, with proper nurturing, we can reestablish the record of innovation that Ohio has enjoyed in the past.
We have a world class asset in our community and that is the intellectual wealth offered by the people and activities at Wright Patterson AFB. The promise of the facility will be more completely realized upon arrival of the assets programmed by the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Commission. This will be for me a matter of great interest and attention. As a result of the enhanced resources at the Base there will be an even greater opportunity to spin off research products to benefit and create local companies. The result will be greater economic advantages for our citizens.
I am thankful for the opportunity to seek this position through the freedom and democratic process we have in America. I look forward to meeting the citizens of our district to learn about your ideas and concerns.

Chris Widener Announces Candidacy for State Senate
Widener files to run for State Senate, 44 year-old father of two wants change
XENIA, OHIO - Citing the need to continue to improve the State's economy and business climate, reduce taxes, and reform public education in Ohio, State Representative Chris Widener filed his petitions to run for Ohio's 10th Senate district.
Widener currently serves Madison and portions of Clark and Greene counties in his fourth term as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives. "To me, the expectations of the people in the 10th District are clear," said Widener. "State lawmakers need to have the guts to tackle the tough issues that will reduce the burden of state government on families and small businesses. We need elected officials that act ethically, work at the job they are elected, and represent the interest of families and the economic drivers of the Miami Valley Region."
"The people of the 10th District want experience and proven leadership in Columbus to cut taxes and government red tape," said Widener. "Some candidates talk about it, but I voted to cut state income taxes by 21 percent, saving Ohioans $1.3 billion this year. I voted to eliminate state income taxes on military pensions, and I voted to cut property taxes on every Ohioan over 65. I've put amendments in numerous budgets to cut government spending and worked to hold state spending overall at its lowest growth levels in 44 years. And, I voted to create a program of prescription drug coverage for 1.3 million Ohio seniors at no cost to the taxpayers," said Widener.
Widener is an architect, and has operated his own architectural practice for 18 years. He says his company, like every other has been through the tough times, and stressed reform is needed with the state bureaucracy in taxation, unemployment, and workers compensation. "These state agencies are driving businesses under, and I plan to work to eliminate burdens placed on small business owners. The forms, legal notices and threats our Ohio companies receive on a regular basis are horrendous. Employers cannot provide a safe, competitive workplace and develop a strong workforce with the state breathing down their neck." said Widener.
"Frankly, I wish more of my colleagues in the legislature owned and operated a small business, had to make a payroll, wanted to provide affordable health insurance to employees and their families, and had to spend hours and hours with government red tape like I've done in my business. If they ran a small business, I know a lot of their ideas that do nothing but add bureaucracy in Columbus would never surface," said Widener.
Widener says he wants to be a part of the solution to relieve the burden on local property taxes by public education. "I know how tough it is to find a solution to this issue. I'm one of only a handful of state lawmakers to write a new formula and try to get support from state and local education interests and lawmakers to change the current system," said Widener. "Now the Governor says he will solve the problem, but the 10th District needs an experienced legislator at the table for those discussions," said Widener.
Continuing on education Widener stated, "This election is about the future not the past, and the future of our State relies on quality, affordable public education." He was recently credited for obtaining funds for an education pilot project that is aimed to link the curriculum and instruction needed to produce a work force for the high-tech jobs already in the Miami Valley. "The goal is for students and parents to see a pathway to jobs coming from the money we spend on public education in Ohio," said Widener.
Widener then summarized his run for senate. John Mitchel Announces Candidacy for Congress

John Mitchel files for U.S. Congress, 7th District, Ohio
Beavercreek, Ohio, Friday, January 4th, 2008: Today former Air Force Lieutenant Colonel, John Mitchel filed for the March 4th Republican primary in Ohio's 7th Congressional District. He has been active in politics since 1998 when he challenged Bob Taft for Ohio governor. Colonel Mitchel, a systems analyst at Wright Patterson AFB and free-lance writer/publisher ( www.patriotpressohio.com ) claims his experience and proven leadership make him the best qualified candidate to serve the 7th District in Washington. He has over 30 years in federal service as a U.S. Air Force Academy graduate, 22-year career officer, defense acquisition professional and fraud, waste and abuse investigator.
Mitchel commented, "Every two years we go through the same drill. The candidates discuss the issues of the day and promise to make things right. Irresponsible spending, Social Security, healthcare, illegal immigration, gun control, abortion -- you name it. Talk is cheap before the primary and even cheaper leading up to election-day in November. However, nothing changes because they never address the root causes for failure of big government and its increasing tendency to control all aspects of our lives. These trends are clearly recognizable across America, but there's a strong argument that Ohio is leading the race to the bottom. For example:
* In terms of combined local, state and federal taxes, Ohio ranks in the top five in the U.S.
* Ohio is second last in the nation in job growth, and
* 25% above the national average in unemployment,
* Ohio ranks # 2 in foreclosed homes and delinquent mortgages,
* Ohio leads the nation in 20 to 39-year-olds leaving the state. That's one reason we lost five Congressional House seats since 1980 and will lose two more after the 2010 census,
* Fraud, waste, abuse and corruption continue to be growth industries in Ohio. Our last governor was Ohio's first governor to be convicted of a crime while in office, and we have two former Congressmen in federal prison, with at least one more waiting in the wings if justice is served."
Colonel Mitchel added, "The simple truth is that Republican and Democrat insiders, corporate elitists, special interests and lobbyists have a stranglehold on government, and that includes my primary opponents. To the kingmakers, it doesn't matter if a career politician from Greene County, a lobbyist from Pickaway County or a partisan insider from Clark County win the Republican nomination for the 7th District Congressional seat. None of these candidates can or will pose a serious threat to the status quo. Here is how I am different.
First, if elected, I would remove all temptation to become a career politician. I would limit myself to no more than three terms or six years in Congress.
Second, I would sign on as co-sponsor for the FairTax. This tax reform not only eliminates the IRS, but it removes incentives for our federal elected officials to pander to lobbyists, special interests and single issue advocates for cash to finance their campaigns. The current tax code clearly punishes creativity and productivity, not to mention a growing number of middle class Americans that can barely make ends meet after 30-40 percent of their income first goes to pay local, state and federal taxes. We need a tax code that is fair, simple and pays the bills, and tax reform at the federal level is a good place to start."
